The challenge of measuring plumes of gases and pollution has been solved by a new multi-spectral imaging camera from Nicarnica AS. The camera use a high quantum efficiency detector sensitive down to wavelengths of 280 nm. A filter wheel housing up to 9 filters provides spectral selection of radiation so that specific gases can be isolated and quantified. Rapid sampling of 1 Hz can be achieved by measuring radiation through one filter continuously.
Envicam-1 has been used at active volcanoes and has also been used at industrial plants to measure gases, including industrial plumes from a power plant in Romania. Measurements like these can assess the emission rates of gases and help to mitigate adverse effects on the environment and human health.
