UV and IR cameras can be used to remotely monitor and measure polluting gasses such as SO2 from power stations or other major installations.

The ability for any environmental authority to verifiy the information being provided is a vital step in ensuring the health and welfare both the environment and society which it protects.

Nicarnica offers two products which can be used from a distance of up to 20 km to measure SO2 emission rates and compare to what is being reported by industry.

Aviation
The NicAIR Airborne system is an ideal choice for integration into current aircraft. With various options available the user can detect and measure volcanic ash, SO2 and even types of Clear Air turbulence or any combination of these.
Nicarnica is developing the technology in cooperation with key aviation companies to ensure that in the event of another ash episode that some level of continued flight will take place.

Volcano Monitoring
This is where is all started. Volcano observation is important for everyone. From the effects on local health and the environment to the disruption and potential destruction of aircraft. Over the years there have many reports of damaged aircraft due to volcanic ash and the price can be heavy including the loss of life.

Ground based monitoring systems such as NicAIR are ideal in that they allow 24/7 observation at a distance and provide information immediately to stakeholders. The technology has also been adapted for use on-board aircraft as a warning system which would warn the pilot of an ash cloud at a distance of up to 10 km giving ample time to make course adjustments. This data can then be forewarded to other aircraft and ground based observatories to aid in forecasting. - read more -

Dust Storm Detection System concept utilizes the latest in IR Imaging Camera technology along with the know-how, expertise and proprietary algorithms of NILU to create a truly unique solution. The system’s ability to visualize fine dust particles from volcano research has led us to create this concept and the need to find a BETA test location.
